Eric Cheray - Evaluators: Mike Macfarlane, Mike Lusardi

    http://www.midwestsportsadvisors.com/dotnetnuke/EricCheray/tabid/151/Default.aspx

Eric Cheray is a remarkable athlete with the potential to be a big time player. He is a Catcher /Pitcher BUT - can play literally any position on the field because of his quickness and his athletic ability. He is a smart player with great hands and feet and reads the flow of a game as well as any high school player we have seen this season. He generally finds himself in the right place at the right time - an attribute that every Catcher/Infielder needs to have. Eric is aggressive and hard working with the ability to adjust on the fly. He is very smooth in receiving the ball (as a catcher) and transitions to throw extremely well. His POP is consistently at 2.0 or under. His arm is strong and accurate - which makes him a great candidate to play on the left side of the infield for any program. As an infielder Eric consistently scores in the above average and the excellent range. As a hitter, Pro Evaluator Mike Macfarlane (Former Kansas City Royals catcher), feels that Eric is a very knowledgeable hitter with the potential to be a big time college hitter. "Eric's mechanics are some of the best I've seen in a HS hitter in some time. His hands, feet, and weight distribution are exceptional. He will hit for a high average and shows signs of considerable power in the future. He is smart and disciplined at the plate. has the knowledge to "work" a pitcher and is a very unselfish hitter". Eric has the potential to play at a very high level. He will be one of your hardest workers in your program. He is a great student and a very high character kid!

Joey Hawkins is a 2011 MIF/3B with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Whitby, ON who attends Sinclair Secondary. Long, athletic build with strength. Athletic actions at SS, smooth, feet move well, quick release with a solid arm. Runs very well. Very solid at plate, quick hands, line drive approach. Good separation and extension, fluid through ball, uses lower half well. Easy swing with bat speed, power to come. Interesting follow.

Eric Cheray, SS/C • Topeka, Kan. • Seaman HS

A 6-3, 185-pound shortstop and catcher, Cheray comes to Missouri State from Seaman High School in Topeka, Kan., where his teams have gone 70-5 his first three years and became the first team in Kansas Class 5A history to win three consecutive state championships following a title in the spring. As a junior, Cheray was first-team all-state, all-league and all-city while earning Topeka Co-Player of the Year honors. Cheray was a first-team all-league and all-city choice after his sophomore season and was the only freshman to make the varsity team in 2008, helping the Vikings to the first of their three-straight state titles.

Koby Peebles, LF/3B • Clever, Mo. • Clever HS • Crowder College

Peebles is a 6-2, 200-pound outfielder/infielder who is the latest of several Crowder College products to continue their college baseball careers at Missouri State. Last season as a teammate of 2010-11 MSU newcomers Dan Kickham and Kyle Hardy, Peebles helped Crowder to an appearance in the JUCO World Series, hitting .474 with nine doubles, six homers, 49 RBIs and 24 runs scored in 38 games. The switch hitter homered twice and hit .600 with six RBIs in the world series after starring in baseball and basketball at Clever High as a prep.

Isn't Seaman where Carlson and Bean went?

yes. Cheray has great power. In case you missed it there are links to youtube videos of him in TNs post. Hawkins was on the ontario bluejays team we scrimmage.

Anyone else think it's strange that we have a low number of pitchers on the roster as is, and will be losing a few to graduation, and yet we still have only one pitcher signed for next year? I was thinking we'd see at least 4-5 pitchers signed in this class.

Did Tyler Burgess sign? also it is entirely possible that our starting 5 rotation will not be srs or be draft eligible.

I understand that, but typically, a college team will have 12-13 pitchers on their rosters, and many times more. We currently have 11 (I do not count Noirfalise or Drake as pitchers), and lose two for sure, and possibly three if Kickham signs. We've added one.

I'd just like to see a few more arms added for depth.

Wichita has 17 pitchers listed solely as pitchers, and 3 players listed as another position and pitcher for comparative purposes. Though to be fair, they also have 35 players listed on their roster, and we have 27.
