Communication between boosters and recruits Not sure what happened to the old thread, but I wanted to remind everyone that it's against NCAA regulations to initiate contact with a recruit through "social" websites (facebook, myspace, etc) and in person. A story about NC State: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=4060673 I would just like to remind Missouri State fans of the following NCAA regulations. NCAA rules PERMIT Boosters to: notify our coaches about prospects in your area that may be strong additions to our teams; attend high school or two-year college athletic contests or other events where PSAs may compete, however, you may not have contact with the PSAs or their relatives for the purpose of providing information on Missouri State; continue relationships with a PSA, his/her parents or relatives, provided the relationship pre-dates the PSA entering ninth grade and the relationship did not develop as a result of the PSA's athletics participation, but you may not recruit them to participate in Missouri State Athletics; continue involvement with local youth sports that may include PSAs, provided you do not solicit any prospect's participation in Missouri State Athletics. NCAA rules specifically PROHIBIT Boosters from: contacting a PSA or their family in person on or off our campus. This includes calling, writing, emailing or text messaging; making arrangements for PSAs or their relatives or friends to receive money or financial aid of any kind; providing transportation for a PSA or the prospect’s relatives or friends to visit our campus or reimbursing another party (including a PSA’s coach) for providing that transportation; providing free tickets or tickets at a reduced cost for PSAs or their relatives or friends to attend an athletic event; entertaining high school, prep school or community college coaches; I regularly check the Facebook profiles of MSU Recruits and players that have committed, and there are some people out there that have made numerous illegal contacts. Not only would that put you in trouble, it would put Missouri State in trouble. Please limit contact to a SINGLE comment and limit it entirely to players who have signed their national letter of intent to come to Missouri State University. Thank you for your understanding and Go Bears!
Just a few simple rules: 1. If you talked to a coach, overheard a coach, or hell, if you ARE the coach, please, DO NOT USE COACHES NAMES 2. No comments about anything that could be in any way construed as violating NCAA rules. That means no talk about players in bars, using phones, getting offered a car, etc. Remember, it doesn’t matter if it’s true or not to create a huge PR nightmare or NCAA investigations 3. If you are not sure...DON’T POST! Remember that these are most often 17 or 18 year old teenagers who have families and friends who certainly read this and other boards. Please respect their decisions and privacy. 4. Try not to post "rumors," there's no need. Keep them in PMs if you think they're that important. 5. And of course, DO NOT ATTACK RECRUITS! DUH! That is, unless they have already committed elsewhere, then it's their own fault for not coming here!
~Contacting Recruits~ Just don't do it. In any form. Period. No facebook, no myspace, no anything. The NCAA is coming down hard on school that have had boosters do this. A prospective student-athlete ("prospect") is defined as an individual who has begun classes for the ninth (9th) grade. However, it is possible for a student who is still in a lower grade to be considered as a prospect, if he/she receives a benefit from the institution that is not permitted per NCAA regulations.
