Western Illinois is the joke team on the schedule. The rest are fine. Hell the Dakotas are fine. They are the flagship universities of their states. NDSU and SDSU have been fine additons to the MVFC, and the rate they are going they might join the MVC in the near future.
Losing to NDSU does nothing for the program, I doubt 2% of people in springfield could name the FCS champion or even knows SDU is in the same conference as the bears. I was at UMR when they hadn't won a game in 4+ years, they left the MIAA and had a winning record the 2nd season as an independent and the team started to get talked about on campus. Winning is more important than who you play if you aren't fighting for a BCS bowl... Ill St, SIU, Drake, UNI, 1 BCS, 1 sunbelt, and beatable teams from the south where recuiting is better than the dakotas... looks like it would be easy to fill the schedule to me.
Except those teams are playing conference games after the 4th week. I'm sure it can be done but would it be worth the headache? How is losing to UNI, SIU, and ISU any different than losing to the Dakota schools? And what are beatable teams in the South? We are one of the worst programs in the nation right now Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
We definitely wouldn't finish last. At least I hope we wouldn't... Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
None of those 3 are from major cities or offer us recuiting grounds but we are all sports rivals with them so it makes sense to play them just for that reason. The Dakotas on the other hand offer us nothing other than making the ADs job easier on trying to schedule.... my girlfriend is from south dakota, that state offers us nothing.
I agree, winning in either of those conferences would be better then losing in the MVC! Fans would go to the games just to see a winning team.
I'm sorry but, what difference does it make WHO is in the MVFC with MSU?! The Bears have been on a skid for years and I don't see how it's relevant to complain about who's in the conference or the delusions of going to the FBS. Going to the FBS takes MONEY and wins and other variables that MSU hasn't even come close to accomplishing. Things like HOME ATTENDANCE are a big part of that move. The Bears need to win in the MVFC no matter who's on the schedule and playing 1 less home game for a paycheck game against a BCS team can actually help the athletic departments budget towards a move up, because MORE money comes from that game than a home game. I'm just sayin', complaining about who's in the conference does NOTHING when the Bears can't even stay above .500 in the conference...
And my point was, who would that be? Say what you want, but we are one of the worst programs in America. We've lost to a D2 school. Lost to Murray State. I guess we could play a SWAC/MEAC schedule Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
