There is a chance he will be 7' before he gets here. Not out of the question for a kid to grow 2 inches his junior and senior year in HS.
I think it's so important to get big kids early in the process at our level. You can't really wait until they mature and start to really show their wares or you get recruited over . Kudos to our staff for at least on paper assuring we have representative size for the next 4-5 years with Bruce and Tyler in tow. That really allows the staff to be very flexible with the remaining scholies for 2012/2013. Will be evry interesting to see how those pan out; wouldn't be surprised if we hear another verbal for 2013 soon.
Yes, enrollment in classes is the only guarantee... Nothing keeps him from being pursued by other schools, so there will always be that chance. I she with Bee that we have to start early. Hopefully out works out for us Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
“Recruiting-wise I have multiple scholarship offers and a lot of interest from schools,” McCullough said. “It’s pretty cool going to schools and meeting the players and being just as tall as their big guys.” So far, McCullough has received offers from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Missouri State, Tulane, Louisiana Tech, and Nebraska.
Everyone is a "salesman", some are just better than others. Basketball recruiting is a complex process, but one significant aspect of recruiting is building personal relationships ( a step in the "selling" process). Even if a high school player "blows up" and attracts the attention of BCS programs after giving a verbal commitment to a school like MSU, many of them will stay with their earlier commitment. I understand that will not be the case everytime, but if the recruiters do a good job in the ongoing process most high school players will honor their commitment. There are a lot of reasons why the verbal from Tyler likely will end up with him in a Bears uniform. I do not pretend to know them all, but an assistant coach on his high school team played ball in Springfield (Drury) and coached at Hilcrest. The two hour drive from his home will enable family members to attend a lot of games. He really likes the atmosphere at the Q, and says he really likes Lusk and the program. Tyler has been recruited and offered by some other D-1 programs already. He can also see that the Bears really need him. He may have a chance to get some playing time early. I agree a verbal is just that---- a "verbal commitment" by a teenage kid. Tyler M playing for MSU has a good feel to it though. As some have pointed out previously, he has this year and next to continue to grow and mature and improve as a basketball player and an athlete. Bears fans may want to put on the "shades", cause the future is beginning to look a lot brighter.
This is absolutely great news having Big T as a Bear was high on my list of wants. That we got the verbal commit this early is another good sign that the staff is sending a great message and finding receptive quality kids. Celebrating Christmas early this year! I really expect to see him in a Bears uni. Big T BEAR ...WELCOME
That's why I was slightly shocked he chose us, he went to camp at Nebraska and went there on an unofficial back in September. With them being a Big Ten school and having brand new facilites (new practice facilities and new arena underway) I thought it might be a struggle. Nice win for Coach Lusk and the Bears, now lets keep him!
It was good to see him proudly wearing Missouri State. I'm looking forward to see how Tyler progresses over the next several years. and of course.... letsgobears!!!
Bringing his little 6'8" hog friend with him! Could be a great pair to build from for four years. The future is starting to look bright.
