Kendrick described Marshall as a skilled basketball player who has grown 8-9 inches since his freshman year of high school.

“His confidence and his athleticism have caught up with his growth,” Kendrick said. “He’s gotten a lot more comfortable with his body and has put on weight and strength.”

Marshall, who committed to MSU during a weekend visit, weights 230-235 pounds, Kendrick said.
Marshall averaged 12 points and 9 rebounds as a junior with 99 blocked shots in a 19-7 season. Kendrick said Marshall’s statistics figure to be more impressive this season after four starters graduated.

“Bruce shoots the basketball really well and had worked extremely hard at his game,” Kendrick said. “He passes the ball well and is unselfish. He’s just a good all-around player.”

Bruce Marshall is a rapidly-developing big man who entered high school at just 6-foot-1 and enters his senior season with the range of a shooting guard and inside skills of a solid 6-foot-10 post prospect. He averaged 11.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game as a junior for Coach Chris Kendrick's Falcons who finished 19-6 a year ago. He also notched 11.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game as an upstart sophomore on a 21-7 squad. He was a member of the Rameybasketball AAU club and selected Missouri State over fellow suitor Air Force.

"Bruce is very long and mobile and has the ability to stretch the defense with his face-up game," Lusk explained. "He has a great shooting touch, and as he continues to grow into his frame, he will be a difficult match-up at the college level."

Love to throw a shirt on him and let him hit the plates, but I imagine we'll need him to play a lot next year.

He has the body to fill out as well. I still think we are getting a MVC version of Steve Novak here.

It's difficult to compare stats across eras from high school basketball. Different teams/coaches/players/situations etc. I assume Marshall will have a much bigger year this year as the focal point of the team (coach has said this as well).

For me, I tend to evaluate prospects based on the tools they bring to the table, and how those tools fit into our plans, and I think Marshall has a chance to develop into a weapon- down the road.

I do agree it would foolish to expect most freshmen to come in and start, especially at the post position, where it normally takes some time to develop. I have every confidence coach knows this, and will do what's best for the team.

Not sure who said he would come in and start but I have never been one to evaluate much off stats and one video... from the sound of it he has a ton of upside and I am very happy he is a Bear.

Im positive the recruitment of Marshall was in consideration when Rosburg and Jorgenson decided on MU.

  15. This recruitment and commitment happened before Rosburg made up his mind? We wanted both of them!!

I beleive that Versailles is a 3A school and is in the same conference as Blair Oaks Where a kid by the name of Paul Miller played his high school ball. I also believe that Fayette is a 2A school which is the same level of school that Ben Mcclemore played and would have continued to play if the school would not have shut down. Point is talent is everywhere not just at the large schools.

Sleepy is right, Versailles is class 3 and Fayette is Class 2.

As a Versailles alum, this is all correct. Heck we mainly played all the big schools in the area anyways and beat alot of them. School size doesn't mean much, besides AAU ball is where all the recruiting is done anyways.
