Tyler Burgess: http://www.prepbaseballreport.com/N...LHP-Tyler-Burgess-from-Webb-City-commits.aspx Good get!
I could be wrong, but unless there is a nice velocity jump from Tyler this spring, I expect for him to make it to campus.
This is a very good signing. He really knows how to pitch, and has outstanding fastball command. I don't think there is any question that he'll make it to campus, but barring injury, he'll get drafted down the road. Great pickup for MoState. I honestly believe he is a better pitcher than Shipers, the radar gun just doesn't show that.
Have you seen Shipers pitch? Shipers really looks great on video, and is already listed in his team's top-20 prospects. If this kid is actually better than Shipers, it will be a coup.
Yes, I have seen him twice. I think that Shipers has a very bright future in baseball, but I don't think he commands his fastball very well, and while his curveball is a good strikeout pitch, he cannot throw it in the zone on the occasions I have seen him. However, if we are talking about 5 years from now, Shipers could put it together and be dominant. However, I don't know how if he was ready to give important innings at this level as a frosh. Remember, his high school does not have baseball. Burgess is ready to pitch at the D-1 level. He has outstanding command and a very good changeup. His breaking pitch is up and down, and that will probably determine what his ceiling is. He is also very mechanically sound, and I have heard that he is a very hard worker and good competitor. I think he'll be a great signing for us.
I wasn't trying to say he won't be a great signing for us. I'm sure he is a great signing for us honestly. Shipers is a big time talent, and is also a hard worker and competitor, but I like your scouting report on Burgess, and hope he starts to get us back to the level of recruiting we should be doing regularly.
Got to watch Tyler pitch last night against Nixa. Threw no hitter and was very dominate. Don't expect him to be drafted high enough and should be a Bear next year. Good kid as well.
