Coach Guttin was on the Sports Reporters this morning and said they have a verbal committment from who they feel is the best pitcher in Missouri. He would sign in November. Does anyone know who this player would be?

Would this be a player for next year (2011 baseball season) or the fall of 2011? If it's for next year, it has to be Tyler King from Republic because he's one of the best pitcher's in the state.

If he's signing this November, it has to be a guy for next year.

    Yes...high school senior

man, you guys keep your ear to ground and keep posting us updates--thanks

what is that old saying---you can nev er have too much pitching !!

King announced last week he was going to Nebraska. May not happen, since he is expected to be drafted. Will have a decision to make at that point. At any rate, Guttin wasn't referring to him.

Hmmm, who are the other top 3-4 best pitchers in the state then? King had interest from Mizzou and other Big 12 schools (Nebraska obviously as well....I had not heard about that yet), so whoever it is must be pretty good in their opinion. And you are right 82, he'll be drafted.

King will never make it to college, he wants to go pro. If he did sign with Nebraska, that's just another local top product we let get away. We have to start to landing some of these kids. Every once in a while they make it to school due to injury, poor performance, too high bonus demands.

Oh well, if this other kid is that good, hopefully he makes it to school.

I was told Coach G said "the best pitcher in the state if not the Midwest"...no clue who but sounds good

I really thought it was King also but if not him the best pitcher in the state is probably:

Jordan Shipers Bethany hit 91 (soph) at Sunbelt showcase pitched in Area Code games and jr Sunbelt team. It would make sense that nobody knows who he is because they don't have a baseball team.

I would put three others up there as well:

Zach Beringer Harrisburg hit 90 (soph) in Sunbelt showcase
Adam Brush S. Boone Co hit 89 (soph) in sunbelt showcase
Fred Ford Ft Zumwalt South hit 87 (soph) has serious upside with his 6-5 175 lb body was best hitter for jr sunbelt team

If it is someone who is going to sign in Nov it would have to be a high school senior

Exactly. I saw all of those kids on MoSports, but they're not seniors as far as I can tell.

I'd be interested to know who's that much better than King.
  12. 13black Bearus Maximus

they are all 2010's which makes them srs

I would say that it is Shipers. The day that we saw him throw, KU and Arkansas were there to watch. He isn't real big, and he doesn't have great command (both very similar to King), but his breaking ball is outstanding, and he cruised at 89-91 and hit 94.

How some of you guys can continue to be down on this baseball program, I'll never understand. We continue to churn out guys that are moving on to the next level. We are recruiting high-level guys. Baseball is a game where you will lose to some bad teams and beat some good ones. Guttin and Evans have done an outstanding job of identifying pitchers and then developing them once they get here.

I think the frustration should originate more from the fact that the
Valley is now unfortunately a below-average, mid-major league in a time
and its lack of strength magnifies those so-called bad losses even more, and
overrides any quality out of conference wins you might obtain.

For a person to glean anything from any poster about how they feel about the baseball program from anything posted in this thread, I'll never understand. That person would be making some huge assumptions...
  16. realteamcoach 6th Man

It has nothing to do with this thread. Have you read some of the comments being said during the Spring season?

And did you see what happened most of the spring season? Kind of hard to be up on a team that you know is clearly underachieving year after year.

No one is down on the program, most would agree it is one of the few that have had some good success this decade. It is just hard to see the same thing over and over again each year: A team underachieve with players that continue to make it to the bigs....

until we get a confirmation that it is Shipers I don't want to put a bunch of info on here but he not only pitched in the area code games he was named to the all-area code team and went to Long Beach.
  19. realteamcoach 6th Man

Yes I did...MVC championship. That's pretty good. We started 4-10, then went 30-10. One of the reasons our players make it to the bigs is that we develop talent while they are here. We could be more like Rice, if that is what you want. We have made the NCAA tourney 6 times in the last 14 years, but I guess that isn't good enough for you. If that is "underachieving", then you know nothing about athletics.

    underachieve
    --verb
    1. underachieve, underperform
    perform less well or with less success than expected;

Answer this one question, with what we had coming back from the year before (Clubb, Carlson, etc), did you expect anything less than making it to at least a regional? If yes, than we underachieved. If no, then we are setting our goals high enough
